The 2017 UCLan online portfolio competition is sponsored by University of Central Lancashire. This is open to all year 1 and 2 students. The competition challenges students to communicate their best artwork via an online medium of your choice.

The competition will crown one overall winner and two runners up. All participants will receive a certificate for entering the competition; with the winners, taking away the following prize:

  • 1st Place – iPad Mini
  • Runner up 1 – Blue tooth headphones
  • Runner up 2 – UCLan Hoodie


  • To be able to create an online/digital portfolio to showcase your best work
  • To be selective with your work (consider the impact of each piece of work included)
  • To be able to communicate the rationale (tell a story)
  • To sharpen presentation skills (colour, composition and layout is important)


Each entry, challenges students to communicate their best artwork via an online medium of your choice. Carefully consider each piece of work included in the portfolio, the outcomes must start by communicating the research process/s; this can be by showcasing influences and working progress (consider including key pages from your sketchbooks). This research should lead to an outcome, which can be presented in range of outcomes. Consider the following:

  • 3D and product design
  • Drawing and painting
  • Fashion and textile design
  • Film, video and animation
  • Graphic design and illustration
  • Interior and spatial design
  • Printmaking and digital prints
  • Photography
  • Printmaking and digital prints
  • Sculpture and installations
  • Written work including essays, journals, blogs and magazines.

Note: consider providing a sentence or a few words to provide context for each visual outcome, this does not have to be excessive.


The portfolio must include the following (these must be easy to locate):

  • Full Name
  • Name of School
  • Course/s of interest
  • A 250 word statement that communicates your passion for the course of interest

How to enter:

All completed submissions should be accompanied with a word document communicating the contents of the portfolio (word document does not need to be extensive, this can be listing of content) this help to ensure all work has been seen.

Requirements:                     Link to portfolio + word file of portfolio content (PDF/PowerPoint only if there is no website)

Max file size:                          10MB max for all PDF’s and Powerpoints (only applies to non-web submissions)
