Self Isolation

Due to the current state of the world in regard to COVID-19 and the current closure of universities, schools, non-essential shops, pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants and the proposed lockdown, I have documented my self-isolation period via film, photography, observational/life drawing.

I wanted to use this extended period of unforeseen isolation in a positive way, I feel that in this very surreal, dystopian present day, I now have the time to explore previously overlooked aspects of myself and my home life. Often, within the usual state of the world, ‘The Rat Race’ – some might say, we take our home life for granted.

I have explored Adobe Premiere Pro at a more advanced level in order to document my isolation in a creative way. I have created a storyboard of my personal isolation; I wanted to communicate my personal struggles and strengths though-out this period.

My Abstract, Self-Isolation - Shannon Jackson: Final Piece

Inspired by a number of attributes, I created this video in order to express and depict my personal time of self-isolation throughout this extended period of lock down. The music which accompanies this video is a 10 minute mix that features 5 different tracks, from the ‘Lost In Preston’ EP, all produced by Adam Mac (Permission to use granted) Tracks in order; 1.Adam Mac and Domino – Strangest Place 2.Adam Mac – Similar Place 3.Adam Mac – Inertia 4.Adam Mac – Lost In Preston 5.Adam Mac – Looky Thing

I Layered multiple clips ontop of one another, to mimic the double/triple exposure technique, I did this in order to create abstract layers within my work, I want the audience to feel my disorient and anxiety, I want the people that watch my video to see the depth of my personal gains and mishaps within this surreal time.

I also reversed the time on a few clips within my video in order to depict how the time in which we were living felt to me, It all feels so dreamlike.
