My Hair My Identity project aims empower women in particular black women into accepting themselves for who they are. Black women within society have been highly politicised and dehumanised which has resulted in many black females wanting to change their true identity. Being a black female myself, I know the struggles black women face within society, having been through and seen other black females struggle, has influenced me to start this project. When looking at my pictures I want women to be inspired and think if she can embrace her natural hair or her dark skin colour then I can too. Every woman possesses an intricate, yet undeniable level of power, beauty and pureness, and sensuality. I think it is very important as a black female artist to create images that depict women in this light and to ultimately tell my own narrative.
