En Dehors

Dance for me is a coping strategy, and I undergo a transformation when I perform. Being in lockdown created adaptations for my art using video and sound. I have created a two-channel video piece that incorporates sequence dancing and colour with sound, to illustrate how my mental state has been impacted by the pandemic, which has disrupted and limited many of my coping strategies

By removing the ‘mask’ from a person, my art practice aims to confront the prejudgements attributed to individual identity, carefully revealing inner thoughts and feelings as a way to change perceptions and provide insight.

The act of confronting personal experiences relating to mental health and trauma is, for me, a story that cannot be put in to words. It needs to be experienced viscerally for it to have a meaningful impact upon the audience.

En Dehors

An artistic representation of how I have adapted to the current limitations inflicted upon us all.

En Dehors

During lock down I created a two-channel video incorporating my mental health, colours and classical sequence dancing. My video is an artistic representation of how I have adapted to the current limitations inflicted upon us all. I have included raw sound footage of every day sounds to create a recognisble and comfortable atmosphere for the audience, aiming to create a period of self reflection.

Before lockdown I specialised in screen printing, using bright colours to reveal photographic style images on to perspex. These were to be suspended at eye sight away from walls, bringing the audience face to face with the theme of my work and their own lives.
